Saxophone Scales and Patterns by Dan Higgins

Scales and scale patterns in this study book cover the entire range of the saxophone and should always be practiced using a metronome. Slur exercises as indicated and put a slight air accent on the accented beats. Every other accent can be deleted at faster tempos. Strive for even technique throughout the exercise before increasing the tempo and rest when needed as these repetitive patterns can be taxing. This book primarily covers major, melodic minor, harmonic minor. diminished and whole tone scales. Note that the melodic minor scales are written the same descending as ascending to facilitate their use in jazz applications. Daily practice of these patterns is fundamental to improving technique throughout the entire range of the saxophone. I found these scales and patterns to be very helpful in gaining technical control of the saxophone.
