These flute etudes are based on common jazz chord progressions. This jazz language is rooted in the bop tradition and includes many helpful patterns and scales for the jazz improviser. Chord changes are provided to let the player see the chords as they relate to the scales and licks. It would be helpful to improvise through the chord changes after playing the etude thus developing one's own ideas based on the language found in the etude. The articulations are provided as a guide and can be altered to the player's taste. Unless noted the 8th notes are played with a swing feel and should always have the triplet swing concept. Two duets are found in the back of the book along with some blank pages to write down your own jazz licks and ideas.
